The BFI Player offers a reasonably priced subscription for just £4.99 a month. This gives you access to a solid range of classic and recent films, which are updated fairly regularly. It's particularly useful if you're going through a phase of a particular director, with a good choice of films for names like Yasujiro Ozu, John Cassavetes and Vera Chytilová.

If you're looking for a particular film then it's also worth checking out their rentals section. There are also a number of films you can watch on the website for free, which are mostly short British films or documentaries. As far as I know, the BFI player will only work for you if you're in the UK, but you can get around this by using a VPN.
